THE OTHER SIDE OF MIDNIGHT

Each day, the sun sets on my world
Leaching the colour from the skies
I feel the chills overtake my heart
As I watch the dusk turn to night

But I don't grudge the sun its infidelity
Its time to light my lamp in prayer
with folded hands I ask my god
to keep you always in his care

as darkness engulfs my crowded mind
A lone thought stands out in the swarm
- the light needs to leave my heart
to shine in yours, and keep you warm

I wait, breathlessly, for day to break
not to colour the skies with golden hues
but to hope you'll visit me in your sleep,
and to ask the sun your daily news!
