A STAR ON THE HORIZON

When I was little, my mom would say
The people we love become stars
They go to the kingdom of benevolent gods
And smile upon us from afar.

Little did I know that the day would dawn
My own breath would become distant too
I can see you on horizons floating away
Out of reach, on your journeys new.

I remember the days when in my heart
You shared my space, without a care
I will wonder forever what tore you apart
A stranger, whose eyes never stray here.

I know my soul didn't hear you wrong
You sang the same songs as me
Your octave was another pitch but still
We made a near perfect symphony

I-M-POSSIBLE

I close my eyes to the world
And open my heart to see
Your essence, etched on my soul
Let memories wash over me.......

Of smiles shared and tears shed
Of moments priceless, and divine
Of little things that made the days
Dreams under stars that shine

Of all the laughter and gifted joys
Of all the words that caused pain
Of rhymes that turned me upside down
And songs that righted me again.

I let them drench me to my core
Seep into my unconscious being
The memories are all I have for now
Till I might live again, my impossible dream!

As long as there is life, there is hope.....

IN TANDEM –YOU AND ME

What is that I hear
A whisper in my ear
Keeping beats in time
Another heart walking with mine.

In the silence that descends
A soft, wet, mist, it lends
A peace, an illusory trance
No matter. May I have a last dance?

My feet, they move again
I'm gliding through the rain
Drops of you, rivulets down my nose
Flooding my lips in gentle overflows.

FAIRY TALES

I live in my world of make belief
Where you and me - we do exist
Bound by the fickle threads of fate
Waiting breathlessly for them to break
In you, even god found a love too strong
To snap the bonds, to prove me wrong
It overflows my heart, bursting my seams
Its easier to live, for now, in my dreams....

I lived a love that wasn't mine
I lived a love in borrowed time
Soon, cherished memories held close will fade
Your words, background music in my days
Still it's really better to have loved and lost
Than to never know the ecstasy you brought.

If I could just hold you a moment, and be held
I would forever be home,
But life isn't fair so I will pay back in kind
I would cheat, and never let go.....

GOODBYE

Each smile of yours
Lights up my world
Each time you hurt,
I cry.
You’re not a memory,
But a loving presence
Alive, breathing, in my heart
You reside.
Intertwined, our moments
Weave in and out of time
I see you watch me early morning
A half-opened misty blue eye.
You never left me, nor I you
Just living out our breaths destined
You’ll never be alone till I’m alive
There will never ever be a goodbye
Just until later…..
Till we meet again
In God’s time…..

THE LEGACY OF A KINDRED SOUL

Seasons come,
And then they turn
Life goes on as before,
The same winter sun
The summer rain
Still nothing's the same, I'm sure.

That fleeting passage
Thro' my nook in the woods
And suddenly, everything's changed....
Sun shines a little weaker
The rain's a little bleaker
Now, the absence, a sensation untamed!

The faded footprints on my insides,
Your legacy
I shade them from the rain,
I wipe my tears, try to smile
Inhale the majestic journey
A lilting graceful refrain.

Your passage, an edifice of love
I'll uphold it
Till nothing of me remains,
But truth is, that life
Once touched by your flow
Will never be the same again.

TO THE OTHER WORLD…

Swirling mists on a foggy night
I step out into them gingerly
They envelop me in their midst
I vanish in their embrace, instantly.
Cold tendrils of its half wet wisps
Play with my now damp hair
They curl around my waiting face
Then lick my lips bare.
Enchanted by the dense white forms
That flow and change incessantly
I reach out my hand to touch you
In blindness I see you distinctly.
Your face arising from the white
Moistened my heart as you smiled
Beckoning me to I don't know where
I just trail behind, beguiled.
The mists, they hold me close in love
Yet let me be so free
I follow them to the end of the earth
Then step off the edge, trustingly.

THE OTHER SIDE OF MIDNIGHT

Each day, the sun sets on my world
Leaching the colour from the skies
I feel the chills overtake my heart
As I watch the dusk turn to night

But I don't grudge the sun its infidelity
Its time to light my lamp in prayer
with folded hands I ask my god
to keep you always in his care

as darkness engulfs my crowded mind
A lone thought stands out in the swarm
- the light needs to leave my heart
to shine in yours, and keep you warm

I wait, breathlessly, for day to break
not to colour the skies with golden hues
but to hope you'll visit me in your sleep,
and to ask the sun your daily news!

THE PHOENIX WILL RISE!

One step forward, one step on,
That's as far as I can see,
As I try to wade brokenly through
The scattered pieces of my reality.

I look for my life, built lovingly to live
As mine, not in consonance to some
A celebration of what I had been
An affirmation of what was to come.

I walk through the shards,
Evading the cuts and scrapes
And encounter the edifice I had built
Still intact! A blessing of His grace...

I rise from the ashes, grow from the dust
As I see my essence still shines bright,
Nothing, but nothing can dim the glow
As my soul rises... above the wrongs, to the rights.

I stand tall, again, holding hands with my faith
And I learn to live my life anew,
As I make a separate place for the broken shards
And let the scatheless being emerge through!

SOMETIMES

Sometimes
I look out of the window
Straight into my longing heart
See the lengthening shadows
My world, splitting into parts.

I fall in love with winter snows
Their reflections shine with joys
Your laughter I strain to hear
And the mischief in your voice.

I see the springtime often
Flowers scenting my nights
A beloved face smiling at me
Eyes brimming, my heart ignites.

I yearn for a dance in the summer rain
Hear leaves whispering to autumn, too
My spirits can’t hold up for long, I crumple
No memories here belong to you.

I look and look till the shadows
Merge with the darkened days
All that's left of me and you
Still haunts me in myriad ways.
Sometimes is a long time sometimes.

DEFENESTRATED

Your devotion
Inner commotion
They're trivialised as can be,
In a world of lies
Their selective eyes
See what they want to see.
Rules they bend
To meet their ends
Live lives of corrupted hypocrisy,
Used like a pawn
In a game of chess
You're their minion, they the aristocracy.

They'll celebrate you
While you're here
When you go
Nobody will care.
You're nothing more
Than a speck of dust
They brush off their shoulder
In undisguised disgust.
You exist
While you serve their needs
Then its oblivion
For you, and your deeds.

FRIENDSHIP IS A GREAT PLACE TO BE!

Our smiles, our unnamed joys
Abstract pieces of our felicity
In the synergies of our connection
They transcend to ecstasy.

Our hearts when they beat in tandem
Share notes, dreams merge to overflow,
The vibrations of our soul, they become
A resounding, exhilarating crescendo.

At times overtaken by distress
Afflicted by the anguished blues
Hold on tightly to my hand in yours
Our resilience, we’ll let it fuse.

Together we'll uproot our sorrows
And tie them up in pairs
On the eddies of the vagrant winds
We'll blow away our cares;

Wrapped up in friendly bubbles of love....

VOICES IN MY HEAD

Often and again,
I write my poetry
in my head. In half sleep
I let my thoughts free rein.

Here I access
The loneliest recesses
of my heart and mind,
That in wakefulness I can't obsess.

I talk to me.
And answer myself,
my own confidante.
Its the best way to be.

There's love here.
Unconditional.
An understanding
of my innermost layer.

Thoughts
That I can't articulate,
that I can't feel.
That tie me up in knots.

This space-
It's my friend,
it judges me not.
It's my prayer, my grace.

I am free
Free to be me,
in my rebellious psyche.
A heretic. A dissident. An incendiary.

Here I exist.
In my truth.
In my lies. In my emptiness.
In my pain I persist.

Here only
I can scream out loud
My antipathy. My inconsonance. My disparities
Here I am alone, not lonely.

CONVERSATIONS

Pulsating electric sounds-your words
Crackling through the air
Waves of energy, thro' time and space
Compressions, rarefactions, in pairs.
Blue lightning, smoking heat
None other can feel or see,
But it speaks a thousand languages
That descend and suffuse in me.
Now the profound silence
The lull before the storm,
Or is that the cosmos breathing
Quietly panting a tired song.
When your words could burn pathways
Create synapses for pulses new,
Why did you think your silence wouldn’t
Scream me intense heart-bits from you!

THE PILGRIMAGE

Out beyond the veil of blue
From my perch in the clouds I see
Rainbow vistas, birdsongs
Calling out to me.

Uncertain steps walk me down
My feet as light as air
I skip along a flowery path
Breeze playing in my hair.

Up and down the hills I tramp
Sun’s fiery breaths scorching me
My steps are still sure and strong
Fast tracking towards destiny.

As hills fall away to flatter lands
Fallen leaves cushion my way
Sunshine, breezes, all walk me along
But my feet, growing heavier by the day.

I wonder where this path may lead
But I pledge to keep going along
If you're there to hold my hand sometimes
And guide me with a coaxing song.

I may parch in a barren desert land
Or a sea might swamp me in
Who knows what paths I need to trudge
Till clouds once again veil me within.
